The FDA has approved the generic version of prescription Lamisil (terbinafine hydrochloride) tablets, used to treat nail fungus infection. The FDA approved the tablets in 250-mg formulations.

โ€œThis approval offers Americans additional alternatives when choosing medications to treat nail fungus infections,โ€ says Gary J. Buehler, RPh, director of FDAโ€™s office of generic drugs.

The FDA also approved an application for a generic version of over-the-counter Lamisil cream (terbinafine hydrochloride, 1%) to treat athleteโ€™s foot.

The remaining patent for Lamisil expired on June 30.
