Dallas plastic surgeon, Dr. Rod J. Rohrich has been honored as the recipient of the 2020 Plastic Surgery Foundation Distinguished Career Researcher Award. This award was established to recognize outstanding achievements in research that have advanced the specialty of plastic surgery. It is meant to recognize a plastic surgeon whose novel and significant work over their career has had a far-reaching impact on the practice of plastic surgery, according to a media release from the Dallas Plastic Surgery institute.
“I am extremely humbled, yet gratified to be honored with this award,” says Rohrich, who has held several key leadership roles within plastic surgery throughout his career. He served as President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as Professor and Chairman and Distinguished Teaching Professor of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine.

The Plastic Surgery Foundation cites several reasons for granting the award, including Rohrich’s widespread role in organizational leadership, lifelong contributions to plastic surgery training and education, and his substantial body of work as an author of scientific articles and medical texts.
Plastic Surgery Foundation President, Scott Hultman, MD, bestowed the PSF Distinguished Career Researcher Award to Rohrich for his lifelong passion in plastic surgery and for helping make the discipline what it is today. Rohrich has helped to transform and shape the specialty over his practice career as an educator, researcher and as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the globe’s leading peer reviewed plastic surgery journal as well as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the first North American Plastic Surgery open access journal – PRS Global Open, the release continues.
Rohrich’s private practice, based out of Dallas at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, has a clinical focus on plastic surgery of the face and nose. He is actively involved in clinical research including five clinical trials with fillers and neuromodulators. Rohrich is a notable rhinoplasty surgeon, and much of his writing and presentations focus on rhinoplasty, and revision rhinoplasty, that is, correcting previously performed rhinoplasties that have poor outcomes.
Rohrich is also the editor of the authoritative textbook on the subject, Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters, which is currently published in six languages and has repeatedly sold out.
