The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for facial plastic surgeons, according to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), as patients take advantage of time off to recover from cosmetic procedures.

Surge in Holiday Bookings

“December and January are always especially busy in our offices,” said AAFPRS President Anthony Brissett, MD, FACS. “Many patients schedule procedures during the holidays because they have time off work to recover. It’s a practical way to combine self-care with the convenience of a break, ensuring they can heal comfortably without interrupting their professional or personal schedules.”

Treatments as Holiday Gifts

The AAFPRS has observed a growing trend in the gifting of cosmetic treatments and treatment-related gift cards. “In recent years, our AAFPRS facial plastic surgeon members have seen cosmetic treatments and treatment gift cards become a popular gift choice,” said Brissett. “People are looking for presents that promote confidence and well-being, not just material items. A treatment can be a thoughtful way to show someone you care about how they feel as much as how they look.”

AAFPRS Offers Consumer Guidance

In response to the seasonal uptick, the AAFPRS advises consumers to be informed and cautious. The organization recommends researching procedures in advance, selecting a board-certified specialist in facial plastic surgery, and avoiding online aesthetic deals that bypass medical evaluation. The AAFPRS also warns strongly against do-it-yourself injectable treatments, citing risks including infection, scarring, and permanent disfigurement.
