ASJ climbs to 3.9, the highest in the specialty, while ASJ Open Forum reaches 1.9 as it earns its second citation score.

The Aesthetic Society announced an update to the impact factors of its scholarly publications—Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) and ASJ Open Forum—according to the latest Journal Citation Reports by Clarivate. ASJ increased its impact factor from 3.1 to 3.9, while ASJ Open Forum received its second consecutive impact factor, rising from 1.6 to 1.9.

Impact factor reflects the average number of citations received per published article in a journal over a two-year period and is one measure of a journal’s standing in its field.

ASJ now holds the highest impact factor in the specialty, according to The Aesthetic Society.

“This record score reflects the outstanding quality of our authors’ work and the dedication of our editorial team, including editor emeritus Dr Foad Nahai, whose vision it was to create the leading scholarly journal in aesthetic surgery,” says Jeffrey M. Kenkel, MD, editor-in-chief of ASJ. “We are honored by this recognition as we continue to raise the standard for academic excellence in aesthetic surgery and create new and innovative ways to educate.”

ASJ Open Forum, launched in January 2019 through Oxford University Press, is a fully open-access companion to the flagship ASJ, designed to broaden the reach of high-quality research in aesthetic surgery. From its inaugural issue, ASJ Open Forum has published an array of formats, including original articles, pilot studies, case reports, expert commentaries, and video articles. ASJ Open Forum received its first Impact Factor in 2024.

“Achieving a second Impact Factor is a meaningful validation of our mission to broaden access to high-quality aesthetic research,” says Al Aly, MD, editor-in-chief of ASJ Open Forum. “We are proud to provide a trusted open access platform where innovation and education converge.”

Both journals continue to expand their publishing efforts through supplements, digital editions, language translations, and thematic issues. Initiatives such as the ASJ Journal Club and GEMS webinars aim to engage readers and authors in ongoing discussion of emerging topics. Visual abstracts and video content are also available to complement traditional articles.

ASJ and ASJ Open Forum are published in partnership with Oxford University Press, now in its 11th year. ASJ and ASJ Open Forum are both indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed and included in Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports.
