The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ISAPS-LEAP Surgical Relief Teams (SRT) sent its fourth volunteer team to Amman, Jordan, to treat injured Syrian refugees.

ISAPS-LEAP deployed its first doctors to Jordan in October 2013 to support local physicians working with the Treating the Wounded Syrian Program at the Dar Al Salam Hospital in Amman. Subsequent teams were deployed in January and February. In total, these volunteers have evaluated more than 150 patients, selecting more than 50 for surgery. During the next 6 months, SRT plans to send an additional nine plastic and reconstructive surgical teams to assist.

The civil war in Syria began in 2011. UNICEF recently released a report showing that Syria is now one of the most dangerous places to be a child. Child casualty rates in Syria are the highest recorded in any recent conflict in the region, the report shows.
