Dermatologists are usually the first line of defense when dealing with skin cancer, but sometimes plastic surgeons are brought in to help restore portions of the face taken out due to melanoma tumors.
“People have often come to me with skin cancer and wonder why am I seeing a plastic surgeon. It’s primarily because we’re trying to restore a normal form and function. And that’s primarily what plastic surgery is all about,” plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Steele says.
