In a move that is not necessarily surprising but still wow-inducing, Lifestyle Lift, a nationwide chain of cosmetic surgery centers, abruptly shut down the majority of its business Monday and said it is considering filing for bankruptcy. Lifestyle Lift has run into its share of trouble in the past with state attorneys general offices that have questioned the company’s advertising practices. In 2009, then-New York State Attorney Andrew Cuomo announced that Lifestyle Lift had agreed to pay $300,000 in penalties to settle claims that its employees published fake, positive consumer reviews on the Internet. Much of this controversy played out in the pages of Plastic Surgery Practice, with nine plastic surgeons responding to an op-ed piece by plastic surgeon Malcolm Paul, MD, on the merits of the Lifestyle Lift.
