While known for cosmetic procedures, Raghu Athrรฉ also provides reconstructive care to patients facing medical and financial hardship.

Raghu Athrรฉ, MD, FACS, a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Houston, has been providing pro bono care to individuals with complex facial conditions who face barriers to accessing treatment.

Among the patients he has treated are a child with a facial deformity who experienced bullying and a young adult with facial damage caused by melanoma who was unable to undergo reconstruction in her home country. Athrรฉ says his approach stems from his medical training and a belief that physicians have a responsibility to help those in need.

โ€œBefore I became a plastic surgeon, I was a doctorโ€”whose responsibility is to heal,โ€ Athrรฉ says in a release. โ€œAs doctors, we must remember that our first responsibility is to heal.โ€

Athrรฉ offers both cosmetic and functional procedures at his Houston-based practice, Athrรฉ Facial Plastics. In addition to his aesthetic work, he occasionally treats patients pro bono as part of a personal commitment to care for individuals experiencing trauma, social stigma, or financial hardship.

โ€œPlastic surgery has the unique honor of being the only specialty that can cure the mind and soul with a physical procedure,โ€ he said.

Patients have noted the broader impact of these surgeries, describing improvements not only in physical appearance but also in confidence and quality of life, according to a release from the company.
