Laura Perlmutter and her husband, Marvel Chairman Ike Perlmutter, are back in the news for their donations. Another favorite recipient of the family’s philanthropy: the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.

According to a press release, the Perlmutters have once again donated a large sum of money to the hospital, which already boasts the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center and the Laura Perlmutter Center For Women’s Imaging. The latest addition, coming in 2018: The Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, to be launched with a $5 million gift from Ike and Laura.

The center, under the auspices of the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU, will be headed up by the department chair, Eduardo D. Rodriguez, MD, DDS. In addition to establishing the center, the money will fund the hiring of a renowned expert in transgender surgery, Rachel Bluebond-Langner, MD, The Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Associate Professor of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.

“Dr. Bluebond-Langner enjoys an outstanding reputation in this burgeoning field, and is highly admired and respected by colleagues and patients alike for her superior surgical outcomes and compassionate care,” reads the press release. “Dr. Bluebond-Langner works closely with NYU Langone’s growing team of talented physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare practitioners representing the many disciplines involved in providing comprehensive healthcare for individuals seeking gender-affirming care.”

Laura Perlmutter has served as a board trustee for NYU Medical Center since 1993, when the family established the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Professorship and Chair in Cell Biology at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine. In addition to serving as Chairman of Marvel, Ike Perlmutter is an advisor to President Donald Trump on the subject of veteran’s healthcare. The Perlmutters have donated more than $70 million to NYU over the decades.
