On International Women’s Day, held on March 8, a team of 95 volunteers traveled to Oujda, Morocco on a five-day mission for Operation Smile. The team included surgeons, nurses, translators, administrators and students - all from various countries and with different backgrounds. What made this group remarkable was that every volunteer was a woman, Forbes reports.
To get a sense of the new reality for medical missions, NPR talked to representatives of a half-dozen organizations whose volunteers provide surgical and medical care while training local health professionals.
