Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine last week announced the success of a $1 million fund-raising drive that will support the school’s plastic surgery training program.

The Zook Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery Fund marked the first time in the medical school’s history that the required $1 million was raised for an endowment.

The estimated $50,000 in interest that will be generated by the $1 million will be used to support activities connected with the education of physicians in the specialty of plastic surgery and plastic surgery research.

The $1 million was raised during the past 2 years and donated through the Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
