Two Phase 4 studies examining patient satisfaction and psychosocial outcomes are among nine abstracts the company will present at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual meeting.

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, will present nine abstracts at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual meeting, Nov 5-8 in San Diego. The presentations include new data from two Phase 4 studies of aesthetic treatment in patients taking GLP-1–related medications for weight management. Both studies focus on patient satisfaction and psychosocial outcomes.

Other abstracts cover multimodal treatment across diverse patient populations, neurotoxin innovation, body contouring, and skin quality, including exosome research.

“Advancing aesthetic medicine starts with understanding patients’ evolving needs and generating the scientific evidence to keep pace,” says Darin Messina, PhD, senior vice president and head of aesthetics research and development at AbbVie, in a release.

Medical Weight Loss Research

The two Phase 4 studies will be presented as video oral abstracts. They examine facial appearance, skin quality, patient satisfaction, and psychosocial outcomes in patients on weight loss medications. The titles are:

  • “Satisfaction With Overall Facial Appearance and Psychological Outcomes After Treatment With Hyaluronic Acid Injectables in Patients With Medical Weight Loss,” with Sabrina Fabi, MD, listed as first author.
  • “HARMONY IN DIVERSITY: Improved Satisfaction With Aesthetic Appearance and Psychosocial Function Following Multimodal Aesthetic Treatment in a Medical Weight Loss Cohort,” with Joely Kaufman-Janette, MD, listed as first author.

“Patients experiencing medical weight loss may have aesthetic concerns that extend beyond changes in facial volume or skin quality,” says Kaufman-Janette, a board-certified dermatologist at Skin Research Institute and a study investigator, in a release. “By examining patient satisfaction and psychosocial well-being alongside changes in physical appearance, we can gain a more complete picture of their needs and support them with individualized treatment approaches throughout their aesthetic journeys.”

Neurotoxin Image Analysis

During the Cosmetic Oral Abstract Presentations: Top Ten session, at 7:30 am PT on Sunday, Nov 8, Jean Carruthers, MD, will present on behalf of Shannon Humphrey, MD. The digital image analysis evaluates glabellar line severity and brow position after treatment with investigational trenibotulinumtoxinE and BOTOX Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA). The abstract is titled “Similar Clinical Outcomes in Glabellar Line Severity and Brow Position Following TrenibotE and OnabotA Treatment: A Digital Image Analysis.”

According to the company, the analysis uses objective digital imaging to add quantitative measures that complement clinician assessment.

Consumer Panel and Additional Abstracts

Allergan Aesthetics will also host an expert panel, The Aesthetics Evolution: Inside the Changing Consumer Landscape, at 12:30 pm PT on Thursday, Nov 5. The panel will draw on the company’s “What Consumers Really Want” report to examine shifting consumer expectations, common misconceptions, and medical weight loss in aesthetics. Tiffany Libby, MD, will moderate. Panelists are Anthony Rossi, MD; Kaufman-Janette; and Vince Bertucci, MD.

The remaining abstracts, all video oral abstracts, include:

  • Multimodal treatment: A HARMONY IN DIVERSITY analysis of multimodal treatment of the face and neck, focused on patient-reported satisfaction with appearance and psychosocial function. Cheryl Burgess, MD, is listed as first author.
  • Skincare and exosomes: Four abstracts on a topical cosmetic human fibroblast-derived exosome serum. They cover its use in a daily skincare regimen and alongside radiofrequency microneedling, non-ablative laser, and diamond tip microdermabrasion. One 12-week study looks at skin quality parameters in premenopausal and postmenopausal women.
  • Body contouring: A study of the safety and effectiveness of two sequencing strategies for combining cryolipolysis and electromagnetic muscle stimulation for abdominal body contouring. Amy Taub, MD, is listed as first author.
