RealSelf is partnering with Bluestone Sunshields to support efforts to produce and distribute protective eyewear to medical professionals in Los Angeles, New York City and Seattle as area hospitals face shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it announces.
Bluestone Sunshields is a Los Angeles-based retailer that makes UV-blocking visors and face shields. The company recently directed its factories to pause normal production and to start making clear safety glasses and full face shields, which are among the personal protective equipment (PPE) most needed by medical professionals at this time.
RealSelf has pledged $10,000 to support the production of 2,000 safety glasses and full face shields and aims to raise an additional $20,000 in donations in order to provide a total of 6,000 pieces of protective equipment to medical professionals.
Donations can be made directly to Bluestone Sunshields and will be accepted through May 1. Every $5 donation pays for one pair of glasses or one full face shield.
The first shipment of supplies will be distributed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and UW Medicine hospitals in Seattle beginning in early April, and subsequent shipments will be sent throughout the month.
RealSelf hopes to have all 6,000 pieces of personal protective equipment delivered to hospitals by May 15.
