There’s less stigma surrounding plastic surgery than ever, but no matter how comfortable society gets with the idea, talking to your kids about your own procedures isn’t an easy thing. (I know from experience—my mom didn’t tell me about her plastic surgery until I was 26, and I reacted angrily, upset that she’d kept a secret for so long and hadn’t trusted me not to tell my friends. Blowout fight ensued.)

The topic came up recently in our Facebook group for RealSelf Insiders (Insiders are highly engaged community members recognized for openly sharing their experiences and supporting others in their journey) when one woman posted: “How many of you have told your children about [the] plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures that you’ve had done? How did you approach the subject with your children? How did they react?”
