BioForm Medical, a medical aesthetics company in San Mateo, Calif, announces that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its Radiesse® product for the long-lasting correction of facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse has also received a second FDA approval for the correction of facial fat loss in people with human immunodeficiency virus.
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres, which provide volume replacement to wrinkles, folds, and sunken depressions, and stimulate the production of collagen. According to the company, the filler’s results last 1 year.
The FDA approval of Radiesse for treatment of facial wrinkles and folds was based on the results of a pivotal clinical trial that supported Radiesse’s safety and effectiveness.
