Microneedling combined with 10% trichloroacetic acid peels improved and maintained hyperpigmentation more than carbon dioxide laser resurfacing alone, according to a study presented recently at the American Academy of Dermatology virtual meeting.

“Infraorbital dark circles are one of the major cosmetic concerns, which is defined as pigmentation under the eyes,” says Banu Farabi, MD, of Ankara University School of Medicine. “The idea behind choosing microneedling plus 10% trichloroacetic acid was, these modalities are cheaper compared to other options and proven to be effective in other pigmentary disorders such as melasma.”
