Scottsdale-based plastic surgeon, Robert Cohen, MD, is filling a much needed niche in aesthetic surgery for women who have had one or more children. He offers a combination of procedures known as the "Mommy Makeover," which returns the breasts and the abdomen to their pre-pregnancy shape.
"After pregnancy, most women will see a change in the appearance of their breasts and abdominal regions," says Cohen. "Pregnancy, and particularly breast feeding, frequently causes the breasts to take on a droopy or deflated shape. Likewise, women’s stomachs will stretch out progressively with each pregnancy, causing a bulging or loose appearance."
The "Mommy Makeover" is not one specific procedure, but is rather a combination of techniques used to create a rejuvenated appearance in women with post-pregnancy breast and body changes.
"This is not a one-size-fits-all type of surgery," Cohen says. "Every woman has unique changes that need to be specifically addressed. Some women need breast implants with a lift, while others need a lift only, or possibly even a breast reduction in certain cases. Along those same lines, some women benefit most from a full tummy-tuck, while a mini tummy-tuck is more appropriate for other women. Frequently, liposuction is used as a complementary therapy to maximize results. I evaluate each woman and we discuss a customized surgical plan that will give them the best possible results."
Cohen says that for many of his patients, the "Mommy Makeover" not only restores their bodies, but restores their sense of sexuality and self-esteem which is often damaged by the physical changes of pregnancy.
