Yet obsessive selfie fans who feel they cannot find the perfect camera angle are now going to more extreme measures to refine their appearance – undergoing surgery to get rid of their double chins.

There has been a dramatic rise in the number of people undergoing procedures to get rid of the unwanted excess fat surrounding their chin, figures have revealed.

Some warned that the growing obsession with selfie culture is fuelling appearance anxiety and causing people to have distorted views about how their faces look, particularly concerning their neck.

The phenomenon – branded ‘digital dysmorphia’ – is said to increase negative feelings about self-image because people often take pictures from less flattering angles than with traditional cameras.
