If you choose breast implants for reconstruction, it’s important to know that they don’t always last forever. The time may come when you need to consider replacement or maintenance of your implants.
While implant reconstruction offers a safe, straightforward and effective way to restore breast contour after mastectomy, it’s possible to have trouble with your implants years later.

The IDEAL® structured saline implant is a FDA approved implant for cosmetic surgery though many surgeons are using it for off label reconstructive surgery. It is designed to feel like silicone without the concern for silent rupture or FDA guidelines for a MRI scan at 3 yrs and every 2 years. They can be left in until there is a leak of saline which is quickly absorbed often saving the number of surgeries in ones lifetime and when requires replacement for a rupture it is a straightforward procedure (does not require capsulectomy that ruptured silicone implants often entail). Hopefully FDA approval for all reconstructive cases will be coming shortly as it has the lowest rupture and capsular contracture rate of all implants available presently in the US and Canada.
