According to Kimberly Finder, MD, a dermatologist at The Face Place, in San Antonio, Tex, a new medical technology called the Fraxel re:pair eliminates the scarring effects of acne.
"The laser works by emitting microscopic beams that hit only a portion of the skin," says Finder. "As a result, this creates columns of laser treated skin surrounded by normal skin. With the Fraxel re:pair, patients will not only experience a dramatic repair of their acne scars, but they will experience improvement with wrinkles and sun-damaged skin as well."
Finder says that Fraxel re:pair works in one session and healing occurs quickly with minimal downtime. The laser also promotes stimulation of collagen so patients continue to see improvement, even weeks after their treatment.
