ConvaTec is introducing AQUACEL® Ag BURN dressing, a new wound dressing for the management of partial thickness burns and donor sites. The new product is being introduced in conjunction with Burn Awareness Week, which takes place from February 5-11, 2012.

The product incorporates the company’s proprietary Hydrofiber® technology, which has been shown in an in-vitro study to lock in fluid and trap bacteria, and to contour closely to uneven wound surfaces. It can be left in place for up to 21 days, helping to reduce the need for painful dressing changes and the risk of exposure to pathogens in the atmosphere.

As it stands, patients with partial thickness burns must often undergo painful dressing changes as much as twice daily. This is uncomfortable for patients and exposes the wound surface to potential infection. AQUACEL® Ag dressing incorporates the antimicrobial action of silver, including MRSA, VRE, S. aureus, P.aeruginosa, C. krusei, and B. fragilis. The line also features a glove for use specifically in partial thickness burns to hands.
