Integrated plastic surgery programs filled 99.1% of positions in the 2026 Match, with 230 positions offered and two unfilled.
Plastic surgery residency programs continued to draw strong interest from applicants in the 2026 Main Residency Match, with nearly all available positions filled, according to new data from the American College of Surgeons.
The integrated plastic surgery specialty reported a 99.1% fill rate, with 230 positions offered and just two unfilled. A total of 427 applicants competed for those positions.
Across all surgical disciplines, residency programs maintained high fill rates—at least 99.1%—reflecting sustained demand for surgical training. Specialties including orthopaedic surgery, neurological surgery, and vascular surgery reported 100% fill rates.
Overall, the 2026 Match reached a new high, with 53,373 applicants registered, a 1.6% increase from the previous year. The National Resident Matching Program reported that 41,482 PGY-1 and PGY-2 positions were filled out of 44,344 offered, for an overall fill rate of 93.5%.
Plastic surgery was also among the surgical specialties that saw growth in available positions. Integrated plastic surgery positions increased 4.1% compared with the previous year. General surgery positions have grown 11% since 2022, while vascular and neurological surgery reported year-over-year increases at 7.8% and 4.4%, respectively.
