Liposuction among "thin" women to fix problem areas— most commonly fat around the bra line, the back, buttocks, and knees, is increasing in popularity.
According to Lawrence Reed, MD, spokesperson for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, liposuction has changed over time—from removing pounds to removing next to nothing.
Reed says the trend is driven by new fashion crazes, such as low-rise jeans, which his patients want to wear without a roll hanging over the belt.
Physicians warn that there are risks for liposuction, including infection and scarring. Patients considering the procedure should make sure their surgeon is certified.
