Don Hayen, MD, 72, a retired dermatologist who  was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, is reaching out to others diagnosed with the disease, through his blog, which he calls “The Trip Over.”

“If I have to worry,” writes Hayen, “it’s not about dying, it’s about what might happen before I die.”

In his blog, Hayen gives a glimpse into the emotional roller-coaster of an Alzheimer’s patient, including the symptoms, denial, and warning signs associated with the disease. Visitors to the blog can leave comments about their own experiences with the disease or about caring for a patient diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
