The next generation of breast implants may be smarter than their predecessors.
Motiva breast implants will contain VeriTeQ’s heat-resistant microchip called “Q Inside.” This chip will allow a manufacturer, physician, or patient to access a secure online database and retrieve implant-specific data such as serial number, manufacturer name, date of manufacture, lot number, volume, size, and other data. This technology will comply with the FDA’s Proposed Rule for Unique Device Identification.
Manufactured by Establishment Labs, the Motiva line of breast implants is not approved for use in the US, but is available in many other countries.
