AAFPRS data reveals a growing number of women are turning to facial cosmetic procedures during menopause, viewing it as a new phase of self-investment.
The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) is reporting an increase in consultations tied to perimenopause and menopause, as women continue to reframe this life stage as a period of renewal. According to the AAFPRS’s annual survey, 28% of members say patients cite menopause-related concerns as a reason for seeking aesthetic procedures.
Facelifts, Eyelid Surgery, and Fillers Address Hormonal Changes
The most frequently requested surgical procedures by menopausal patients are facelifts, rhinoplasty, and blepharoplasty. These treatments address changes such as skin thinning, eye-area sagging, and facial bone loss—all common effects of hormonal shifts. Non-surgical procedures like neurotoxins, fillers, and skin treatments are also popular, especially those aimed at restoring collagen.
“Soft tissue fillers, especially biostimulatory fillers, can help replace collagen stores from the inside out and outside in, which can be helpful for women experiencing a drop in collagen levels, leading to wrinkles and fine lines,” says AAFPRS President Dr. Patrick Byrne.
Younger Facelift Patients, Less Stigma
Survey responses also suggest a shift in demographics. Sixty-seven percent of AAFPRS members expect the average age of facelift patients to continue to decline, which may be attributed to both improved surgical techniques and changing cultural perceptions about aesthetic surgery.
