An Interplast Australia surgical team is providing free reconstructive plastic surgery to patients at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Interplast Australia is a nonprofit organization that provides voluntary medical teams to undertake programs of plastic and reconstructive surgery in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific.

The four-person team, led by Sydney-based plastic surgeon Allan Meares, MD, expects to perform 100 free operations for local people, especially children, with  medical problems, such as scars, burns, cleft lips and palates, fractures, and nerve and tendon damage to the hands and feet. The team will work closely with Cho Ray Hospital’s medical staff who will also benefit from surgical training.

This is the first time that an Interplast Australia surgical team has been sent to Cho Ray.
